Christmas came early for women veterans who attended the Women Veterans Health and Wellness Day event. Sponsored by the Chicago Workforce center and Veterans exchange, it was a day meant to celebrate, uplift, and cater to needs of female veterans. The event was held at the Chicago Workforce Center at Pilsen and was open to all female veterans. Those who participated had free health screenings, facials, massages, manicures, private counseling and much more. Great food, special gifts and even childcare was provided to greater maximize the experience for all the women. One could feel the love and excitement in the air from both the volunteers and the women being served.
Tomasa Wickert, a Veteran and current Naval Reservist works for Peoples Gas and was there to inform participants about their job program. She was excited to be there supporting fellow women veterans. “I’m proud to be here because I want to be part of the change because women veterans are often forgotten and it warms my heart to see everybody who is here supporting the female veterans”
Coordinators of the event Maria Talis and Leon Mangum reported that the event was a huge success with 100% participation and beyond. The women and their children left with bags full of gifts and prizes donated by companies who wanted to show their thanks and appreciation for women who have served our country.
