Laurie Sayles Artis formed Civility Management Solutions (CMS) in 2012 as a professional consulting services small business working within both the Government and Commercial space. Currently CMS is providing Project and Program Management; Financial and Grants Management, Training, Conference Logistics and Administrative support to Federal, State, Local and Commercial entities. CMS is a certified SBA 8(a), WOSB, EDWOSB and verified SDVOSB.

 

She was introduced to Federal Government Contracting almost 10 years-ago and as an entrepreneur she immediately realized that this was the ideal business to develop a legacy for herself and others. As Laurie, has always been an entrepreneur, beginning in her parents’ home in Chicago, IL, selling candy to the neighborhood kids, modeling professionally during High School all throughout downtown Chicago, all before joining the United States Marine Corps.

 

Laurie’s seven years’ active duty in the Marine Corps increased her leadership, integrity, teamwork and persistence. They were tested as she earned the respect as a Woman, who is an African American. Her Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) was Maintenance Management and she served in Camp Lejeune, NC; Kaneohe Bay, HI and Cherry Point, NC. She was highly regarded as a Woman Marine and was often called upon by superiors to mentor and train. The importance of her job is best stated by her as “A Marine must be properly equipped to function at 110%,” as her demanding role was to push mechanics, technicians, armorers, etc., to maintain 98% equipment readiness always.

 

Laurie has become an outspoken advocate for Veteran’s as she was sought out to testify at a hearing regarding Veteran Entrepreneur Training for the U.S. Senate Small Business Committee. She was elected as the first Woman Veteran Officer on the Veteran Entrepreneurship Task Force (VET-Force) Committee, and was nominated to become a representative on the SBA Inter-Agency Veteran Task Force. She has been honored to speak on panels for Maryland Legislatures, attended the 2015 “Joining Forces” Veterans Day Luncheon with Mrs. Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, and the highest-ranking Veteran of the country, Vice President Joe Biden. Acknowledged in March 2017 in Women’s History Month as a “Trailblazer” Woman Veteran by the Department of Veteran Affairs.

 

Laurie is an alum of the Goldman Sach’s 10,000 Small Business Program with Babson Entrepreneurship Training at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and received her BS in Social Science and a Minor in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship, along with a Business Project Management Certification from University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and has been accepted in UMUC Graduates Program. She was honored in November 2017 with a spotlight for Veteran’s Day and Global Entrepreneur Week by UMUC. Laurie has no children but married to Lionel Artis and serves on the Ministry of Helps for her church, Spirit of Faith Christian Center in Prince George’s County, MD.

Midge Kimberly founded community-based organizations such as Women of Substance, Men Committed to a Better Community, and the prestigious The Corporate Women’s Network. Kimberly was honored as the recipient of the Dr. King Legacy Award, presented by the Martin Luther King Jr. Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago in March of 2000. The Chicago Defender Honored Kimberly as one of Fifty Women of Excellence.
